One person who has inspired me deeply in my own studies in spirituality and dream realms is Edgar Cayce.
Edgar Cayce is popularly known as the “Sleeping Prophet”. When he was asked to do a reading for a client, his way of downloading the information was do go into a sleeping trans state.
That is intriguing in itself, but what I find even more alluring with Edgar Cayce’s teachings, is his views on soul growth. To him, it wasn’t really that important who or what we have once been, but rather what we focus on in the present, and how we deal with the challenges they face right now, at this time in our life.
“ In the studies, then, know WHERE ye are going…to find that ye only lived, died and were buried under the cherry tree in Grandmother’s garden does not make thee one whit [a] better neighbor, citizen, mother or father! But to know that ye spoke unkindly and suffered for it, and in the present may correct it by being righteous – THAT is worth while! 5753-2 (Todeschi, 1998, p. 7).
Cayce saw each experience as an opportunity to become a better person, and that is a frequency I resonate with. Whether or not we enhance our awareness is what ultimately matters.
Casey did not think of heaven as a place, but more so as a state of mind, or more correctly a state of being, where all souls ultimately would reach.
In one reading, a person was told: “For you grow to heaven, you don’t go to heaven” 3409-1. (Todeschi, 1998, p. 168).
Cayce saw the physical world as a classroom where we can experience the cause and effect of having freedom of choice – and how the future we end up with, depends on how we apply what we have learned! Casey used to say we are not physical bodies with souls, but souls who happen to be having a learning experience on earth (Todeschi, 1998, p. 172).
Perhaps what I find the most wonderful of all with Cayce, is his saying that the ultimate growth in awareness comes from reaching out to others, and to focus on others.
I believe this to be so true. There have been times in my life where I have felt lost and in despair. These times quickly shifted – when I began focusing even more not only on my daughter, my friends, and my family, but also on strangers – by listening to stories, and sharing my love with people.
If we can make every moment a little bit better for ourselves and others, I’m definitely in, and best of all – we can!
