A Dreamer’s Path, part 1 – Why I love dreams so much

I’ve been a big dreamer all my life, and always had a strong sense that there’s more to life, and so much more to understand. Already as a little girl, I wondered about life’s big questions, hoping to somehow find the answers.

And I think that’s why dreams intrigued me so much as a child. I knew there was a connection there, a connection to something bigger. My dreams felt real to me, and it didn’t feel right to just brush them away. I started keeping a dream journal, and even built up a small library of dream books, which wasn’t that easy growing up in a small town in Sweden – and that was long before the internet came along.

What was interesting during this time, is that I had an inner knowing that I would write books, one day, and that my first book would be about dreams – and it was! My first book Dream Guidance, was published 4 years ago.

Dream Guidance is a short and sweet book about dream psychology, and even though it’s so small, it turns out writing a book about something I feel so passionate about opened up the golden gate to interviews with magazines, and fun appearances on radio and TV shows. Last year, I had the pleasure of being on Steve Harvey TV show – sharing my joy for dreaming, which was beyond exciting for a girl who grew up in a small town in Sweden!

By studying dreams for so many years, and more than anything listening to my own dreams, I’ve come to see that we have many different types of dreams, and I find it useful categorizing them into four main areas:

  1. There are dreams that help us better understand and know ourselves better. I think of these as subjective dreams. As a general rule of thumb, most dreams tend to fall into this category! That is – there is a good chance that most characters in a dream represent different aspects of yourself!
  2. Then there are dreams that help us better understand our interactions with others, and in these types of dreams, which tend to be somewhat more objective in nature, the dream characters have been chosen by your unconscious self to help you understand your emotional interaction with them. Dreams are all about enhancing our awareness!
  3. There are also dreams that come to us with unique guidance, and help spark our intuition. I think of these as intuitive dreams.
  4. And then there are the majestic dreams that take us on real journeys to meet with loved ones, or have us meet with spirits or other dreamers in dream realm. I refer to these as astral dreams.

More than anything, I love looking at dreams as beautiful avenues for higher self-knowledge and self-acceptance and helping us honor who we truly are.

And I think that’s really the golden key to feeling good. Because how can we possibly understand, accept and love ourselves if we don’t fully know ourselves!
