Self-Love is a wonderful act of compassion, and I believe it is one of the most important steps we can take on our journey of soul growth. There is no wonder self-love also happens to be the foundation of many of my speaking topics!
What Self-love is Not
When I talk about self-love however, I first would love to clarify what it is not:
- Being selfish: To be selfish is not self-love. A selfish act means you’re cutting someone out – which means you also cut out yourself on some level, which will make you suffer. In a spiritual vibration we are one. A loving act reverberates in all directions.
- Being there for others, and not yourself: Sometimes, in our desire to be there for others, we forget about ourselves. That is not self-love.
- Lying to ourselves: Not living in authenticity is probably the most gruesome act we can do to our soul. It takes away our inner joy, and slowly tears us apart because our heart, mind and soul are not aligned. There is a dissonance inside us, and we become disconnected.
Self-love is having compassion for ourselves and others, being kind to ourselves and people around us, treating ourselves and other people with love and care, listening to what our heart tells us, and understanding ourselves, so we can accept who we are!
In a spiritual vibration we are one. A loving act reverberates in all directions.
Self-Love is Compassion and Self-Acceptance
Self-love is compassion, and self-acceptance – and this is how honoring our dreams come into the picture. Because in order for us to have compassion for ourselves, we first need to know and understand who we are.
Dreams help us see ourselves from a higher perspective, and bring about hidden aspects of ourselves to the surface. Dreams help us untangle emotional webs of behavioral patterns we may not even be aware of being trapped in, and if we’re feeling anxious, sad or depressed – they can also help us understand what the underlying core issue is. What are we scared of? Are we perhaps not living to our full potential, or not speaking our truth? Or are we not honest with ourselves?
Listening to our dreams can bring about tremendous insights. The best type of dream dictionary is actually one that you write yourself! Your dreams communicate in a symbolic language – that is born out of your own unconscious. People, objects, and events are never portrayed just by chance – they have been chosen for a particular reason – to help communicate a message to your conscious self, so that you can integrate these insights and become even more whole, and complete, accept yourself for who you are, so that you can fully be there for yourself and others.
Self-Love is being kind to people around you- and yourself!
Self-love is not only about being compassionate with ourselves – it is also being loving and compassionate with others. When we are in a loving vibration, we realize we are all one, and how we treat others is therefore a good indicator of how we treat ourselves.
Self-love begins with being kind and caring to others, and loving yourself at the same time.
If you feel down and sad, getting yourself out of that negative energy can be very tough indeed. The best remedy in my experience is to be loving and understanding – and accept that we feel down right now, and then go do something wonderful and kind for someone! This is an amazing way of uplifting our spirits, and it has the added benefit of spreading love and joy all around.
Self-Love is treating yourself with love and care!
In the process of being loving and kind to others – don’t forget about yourself! For each act of kindness you offer someone else, do something special for yourself! Treat yourself to a nice walk, a yoga class, a massage at the spa, a new outfit, some time in a cafe writing, and most importantly – always treat yourself with love and care, and that includes eating foods, and drinking fluids that nourish and hydrate your body, listening to music that inspires your soul, and living a spiritually fulfilling life – honoring your sacred practice, on the path and journey that you are on.
Loving acts have positive reverberations in all directions. You feel happier, others feel happier, and each moment you do a loving act for someone – and yourself – you practice living in love.
Have a wonderful day!
Go love yourself, and do loving acts for others!
